Be Reconciled To God
For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life! -Romans 5:10 (NIV)
What Does it Mean To Be Reconciled To God?
When God created everything, He called it good. Of course, it was good because God created it! But Adam’s sin destroyed the relationship he had with God in the beginning. Before Adam and Eve sinned, they would meet God each evening and talk with Him. After Adam and Eve broke God’s law, they hid when God called for them in the garden. They had broken the relationship that humankind was supposed to have had with God.
Reconciliation is the restoring of the relationship. God wants to talk with us; to spend time with us; to have a relationship with us. However, without reconciliation, we are still at enmity with God.
How Are We Reconciled With God
Christ’s death on the cross provided the way to our reconciliation with God. Once we accept Christ’s substitutionary death for our sins, we will be reconciled to God. We become a new creature, living a new lifestyle, serving a new Master–our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:18)
