Getting Started With Bible Study
The hardest thing about Bbile study can be getting started. Bible study doesn’t have to be hard, and reading plans can make it easy to stay consistent.
Some of the reading plans we have been going through in our Facebook group cover the New and the Old Testament. I’ve listed a few of them below.
- 90-Day Gospel Reading Challenge: Life of Jesus
- Book of the Bible in a Week: Paul’s Letters
- 12-month Bible Reading Plan: Old and New Testament
The 12-month plan is not the whole Bible. This is a simple plan that can be read by young and old alike. It’s a casual stroll through some of the most important events recorded in the Bible.
Imagine the Bible as a beautiful mosaic, with each piece telling a unique story. The Old Testament is like the foundation, filled with ancient historical knowledge and timeless wisdom. It’s where we learn about creation, the struggles of humanity, and the promises of God.
Then, there’s the New Testament, which is like the heart of the mosaic. It introduces us to Jesus, His teachings, and His love for us. Through His life, death, and resurrection, we glimpse a new way of understanding faith and connecting with God.
Together, the Old and New Testaments form a complete picture, a symphony of truth that guides us on our spiritual journey.
Small Group Bible Study
Bible study can sometimes feel lonely. While a quiet time alone with the Lord is profitable for our faith journey, we may begin to feel isolated.
Bible study is meant to be shared and discussed.
Sharing your Bible time with others is fun! Sunday school class is a great way to share the joy of Bible study, but that’s only once a week.
Consider joining a small group online. Online Bible studies are convenient, and a lot of them are free. Just do a search online or on Facebook.
You can start by joining our Facebook group, “Joyful Living Secrets for Christain Women”. This is a “girls only” group where we study the Bible through a variety of reading plans. We also come together to explore the Bible, share insights and questions, and get to learn from one another’s experiences, It’s like going out for coffee with your girlfriends without having to go out.
Small groups create a safe space to ask questions, voice doubts, and dig deeper into the meaning of Scripture. The wisdom of others can shine a light on parts of the Bible you might not have noticed on your own.

The BibleProject offers these fantastic, easy-to-follow lessons that help you understand God’s Word in a way that’s simple and straightforward. They use videos and illustrations to make it all come alive, just like your favorite Sunday school stories.

Free Mobile App
Life’s busy, right? That’s where mobile apps step in to save the day. They’re like a virtual library that fits right in your pocket. With a tap, you can access study materials, devotionals, and even Bible reading plans. So, whether you’re on the bus, waiting in line, or chilling at home, you’ve got a pocketful of wisdom to explore.
There are many Bible apps out there, but my favorite one is YouVersion Bible.
With this mobile app, you can choose a reading plan, and the app will keep you on track. It sends you a daily verse, and if you click on it, you will be taken to a short devotion focusing on the verse. But the best part about this app is that it will read for you. I love this feature!
Recently I listened to the whole Bible in 30 days…it was intense. I like to listen to major portions of the Bible when I’m doing housework, sitting on the porch, or driving.
Free Youtube Channel
Alright, let’s switch gears a bit. If you’re someone who loves visuals (me!), then you’re going to love YouTube and video studies. Imagine sitting back and watching the stories of the Bible come to life like you’re right there in the scene. These videos aren’t just about learning; they’re about experiencing the Bible in a whole new way. So grab your popcorn and let the stories unfold before your eyes.
There are a lot of different types of videos to listen to or watch. You can do a search on YouTube for any subject or a specific passage, and you will find someone preaching about it, teaching through it, or maybe even a cartoon illustration on the specific search query.
No matter which one you enjoy most, your Bible study journey will be enhanced by these videos. Here are a few of my favorites:
- Sermon on the Mount: Bible Study with Susan Heck
- Exposition of Mark: Grace to You Bible Study with John MacArthur
- Be Still and Know: Pslam 46 Bible Study with Christina Patterson
Bible Study Journal
Alright, let’s slow down a bit and talk about something personal—your study journal. It’s like your private space to jot down thoughts, questions, and moments that touched your heart. This journal isn’t about perfect handwriting; it’s about capturing the whispers of your soul as you journey through the Scriptures. It’s a tool that helps you reflect, grow, and connect with God’s Word in a whole new way.
There are several journals you can purchase in the store or online, but there are also free printable pages you can print out at home and create your own journal.
I have some available right here on Heavenly Placed. Check them out below.
