The Romans Road
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works so that no one may boast. -Ephesians 2:8
If you’ve been around a church that practices evangelism, then odds are you have heard the Romans Road mentioned a time or two. The Romans Road is a group of verses found in the book of Romans (obviously), that neatly lay out the plan of salvation.
According to the Bible, we all start off on the same level. No one is better than another. It doesn’t matter your status, race, gender, or ancestry–there are none who are righteous (or right with God). -Romans 3:10-18
The Roman’s Road to Salvation- the Board Game
Oh! This would make a great board game. We all put our pieces on the board and we all begin at Start. But we don’t have to roll dice, draw a card, or spin a wheel, so maybe not. Anyway, it’s your turn. Take one move out from Start, and acknowledge that you are a sinner and can’t get to God on your own. Romans 3:23-all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.
Next, move over one space to the left and discover Romans 6:23, the wages of sin is death (eternal separation from God). But wait! You get to move again, so slide over to the right and finish verse 23 which says, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Your next move is a big slide forward and you land on Romans 5:8; God showed His love towards us, even though we are sinners, Christ died for us. This is great news, so skip three spaces!
Here you land on Romans 10:9, “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Okay, decision time. Romans 10:13 says. “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” The Faith Button is waiting there to be pushed. If you decide to push it, you win the game! I mean, you will be saved! What are you going to do? Ready to start a new life with Christ as your Lord?
The Real Roman’s Road To Salvation
Seriously, these verses us the information that we need to realize our position without Christ and our need to confess Him as our Lord and Savior, so we will be able to become co-heirs with Him and be adopted into the family of God. Here they are in a clearer format.
1. Romans 3:23-all of us are sinners (born that way, because of Adam)
2. Romans 6:23-the penalty for being a sinner is eternal separation from God; but God has provided us the gift of salvation through His Son, Jesus, through His virgin birth, sinless life, sacrificial death, and miraculous resurrection from the dead
3. Romans 5:8-God loved us first, even while we were sinners, Christ died for us
4. Romans 10:9-anyone who confesses with their mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believes in their heart that God raised Him from the dead, will be saved
5. Romans 10:13-pray to Him and be saved
